Konerko Earns Right To Veto Any Trade
Paul Konerko earned the right to veto any trade from the White Sox as he celebrated his tenth year of service in the Major Leagues on Tuesday, according to the Chicago Tribune.
"I can't see it, really," Konerko said about leaving the White Sox. "Last year was a bad year for the organization...the way everything panned out. I don't see that happening for the team any time soon. I don't see any scenario in which I'm not a White Sox through the length of this deal (through 2010) because I see this team being competitive, and I want to play on a competitive team."
"Last year was one year where everything went down the drain. I don't see that happening again, at least in the next couple years," Konerko added.
Cubs Could Trade For Greene?
The Cubs are reportedly watching Padres shortstop Khalil Greene, and the Padres have monitored Cubs center fielder Felix Pie, who lost playing time to Reed Johnson, as the two teams may make a trade.
RealGM Note: Greene is struggling this season, hitting .222/.277/.293 and he has a -7 season FIC.
Reds' Hatteberg Would Welcome A Trade
Scott Hatteberg won't demand a trade from the Reds, but he wouldn't object to a deal away from the team either, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.
He's not happy in his role as the team's pitch-hitter.
"It's difficult," Hatteberg said. "I've never been a very good pinch-hitter. I'm trying to figure it out. I'm trying."
"First and foremost, I'd like to be here and help the team win," he added. "I play baseball to play."
Crisp Off Trade Front For Now?
With Bobby Kielty undergoing hand surgery, Coco Crisp has been removed from the trade front for the time being.
"[Ellsbury] is playing well, I'm playing well, J.D. and Manny [Ram?rez] are playing well - I wish it was softball," Crisp said. "We'll see what happens. It was a little different story about five days ago. Hopefully, we'll continue to play well and make it a tough decision."
Oswalt Would Only Consider Red Sox, Cardinals and Braves
Roy Oswalt was asked about the trade rumors that have been circulating through East Coast media again on Thursday.
"I don't know where (the media) got that from, left field somewhere," he said.
Oswalt is adamant the Astros have never asked if he would consider waiving his no-trade clause.
"They haven't yet. No," he said.
Although Oswalt has not publicly said which teams he'd consider, people close to him say he wouldn't want to pitch in the New York market and that he'd only consider the Boston Red Sox, St. Louis Cardinals and Atlanta Braves.
Could Cubs Call Sox About Coco?
New centerfielder Felix Pie is struggling, and possible outfielder Alfonso Soriano is on the disabled list, leaving the Cubs with a thin roster, according to the Rocky Mountain News.
That means the Cubs could call Boston about Coco Crisp once again. The Red Sox have been starting Jacoby Ellsbury in center this season.
However, Crisp has been bothered by both groin and hamstring problems.
Jays Offered Catalanotto For Cueto In 2006
While Johnny Cueto, who has been dominant this season, was in the Midwest League in 2006, the Blue Jays offered outfielder Frank Catalanotto for the right hander.
Cincinnati GM Wayne Krivsky, on the job only a few months, didn't reject it out of hand simply because he was still getting acquainted with the Reds' farm system.
Mets Interested In Robinson Tejeda
The Mets have interest in the Rangers' Robinson Tejeda, a person familiar with the situation said, but a deal does not appear imminent. Tejeda was designated for assignment last Saturday.
Giants Looking At Nick Johnson
Washington's Nick Johnson has been discussed as a potential trade candidate internally by the San Francisco Giants. Johnson might be off the market after winning the everyday first-base job and starting the season strongly.
A source said the Giants scouted 26-year-old Braves first baseman Scott Thorman.
In spring training, the A's attempted to ship Dan Johnson to the Giants.
Both Chicago Teams Still Interested In Crisp
The Red Sox are in no hurry to trade Coco Crisp, but the two main suitors are the Cubs and White Sox, according to a source familiar with both Chicago teams.
Boston has never been interested in Jason Marquis and believe the price for Crisp is too high beyond that.
